The Jesus of Golden Cemetery: A novel about patients and employees being victimized in mental institutions

by Massoud Noghrekar

"As a writer and political and human rights activist, I have learned to tell the truth and state facts even in my fictional novels, regardless of consequences. Having worked in the psychiatric field in the USA, and as a physician and staff member, I consider it my responsibility to inform people of challenges and shortcomings in this field. In this novel I have tried to show the role of money and power mongering in patient care, problems in regard to mental illness care, defamation of character in the workplace, and unethical behaviors in the workplace.
My sole purpose for writing this series of books is to help correct and improve conditions for patients (or residents), staff and companies that run hospitals and facilities in the psychiatric field. I insist that no one can devalue dedication of health care employees who help the people and strive to enhance the quality of life and care of patients or clients. It is obvious that working in mental illness facilities is one of the hardest and most taxing jobs in the healthcare field. There should be no doubt that I did not want to devalue or blame the staff or leadership in any residential treatment facility. The courage and braveness it takes to work with mentally ill patients is extremely respected and valuable. In this novel I try to show the problems of a system in which services and humanities have been replaced with money and power, a system that victimizes patients and staff."
